British Dental Association Conference

All Dentists, Dental Hygienists & Dental Nurses must carry out 150 hours of Continuing Professional Development (a mixture of attending lectures, reading to keep up to date) over a 5-year period.

Gary has been a member of the BDA all his practising life & has held local branch positions such as Chairman, Secretary & Treasurer.

Once a year the BDA hold a 3-day conference in Manchester with an extensive lecture programme and trade stands showing off the latest in all things dental, materials, toothpastes, instruments etc.

Amongst the lectures we attended this year were Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults, White lesions of the Oral Cavity, New Approaches to sensitivity, Periodontal Health & Implant maintenance, and Erosive tooth wear management.

Trying out the latest Sensodyne Rapid Relief toothpaste was fun as we got a tub of ice cream to eat beforehand!

Of course, one of the most valuable aspects of Conferences is networking with colleagues and meeting up with old friends.

The mood this year was subdued as the conference came 2 days after the Manchester Arena bombing, and security was high as you would expect with bags being searched on the way into the Conference centre.  Despite this it was a good three days of learning new things & being reminded of others we’d forgotten. We’ll be back!
